# Scope of Job
The Department of Theatre at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is accepting applications for a one year appointment Lecturer (contingent upon enrollment and scheduling needs) to teach in its Bachelor of Arts program beginning Fall 2018. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university or local community as needed. Additional expectations include: production responsibilities in one of the following areas: set, prop, sound design and production in theatre or film; participation in department operations, collegial, collaborative attitude, and fostering and exemplifying a good work ethic and positive attitude with the students.
The Theatre Department is located in Edinburg, Texas, a semi-tropical, multicultural, small city within an hour and a half of South Padre Island. The Theatre department has eight faculty and three staff, including a production manager. Our NAST-accredited BA program ranges between 150 to 175 students. We are a unified Theatre/TV/Film BA program with three tracks: performance, design, and film production.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (-plan/), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.
# Minimum Qualifications
MA in Theatre or film from an accredited institution. Theatre or film generalist with the ability to teach multiple undergraduate courses in several areas of theatre and film.
# Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Responsibilities include but not limited to: teaching courses in multiple areas including theatre appreciation, stagecraft, design, film production, acting, and voice and diction.
# Salary
One-Year Lecturers are paid a 9-month academic rate commensurate with experience and/or qualification in the discipline

# Additional Information
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code 51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
